Making Meaning: Symbolism

The inspiration for my image idea is knowledge and the dualtiy between life and knowledge. I’m planning to cut a whole through a hard cover book and insert some kind of plant in the middle to show the corelation between knowledge and growth. Even if I dont use that exact idea ill defintiely be using something between plants and books. Because I like the symbolism of books and new growth. I might also use a dirt plant caught in a glass jar to show growth that is held back by its surroundings.

I believe that this image symbolizes domestication and imprisonment. In this photo the photographr is wearing traditional Japanese clothing with her hair done, symbolizing domestication the photographer is no longer wild and free like her other pictures. The doorframe around the subject also symbolizises imprisonement. This picture as a whole shows the duality between domestication and imprisonement and how they’re one and the same.
